Team MCR/O'Neals Beau Baron wins 2009 WORCS Pro ATV Championship
By Mike Cafro
Mesquite, Nevada - Mike Cafro Racing's Beau Baron overcame by what seemed to be insurmountable odds at the final round of the 2009 WORCS series to take his, and the team's, first ever WORCS Pro ATV Championship.
"It was really an incredible day," said team manager Mike Cafro of the events that transpired.

Baron's strategy for the final round was to ride smart and consistent in order to finish in the top ten, which was what he needed in order to take the championship, but that strategy was blown out of the water when Baron came down hard in the whoops in the third lap and his bike cut out and would not restart.
"I thought it was all over," said Baron. "I was sitting there on the side of the track and them Mike (Cafro) came around and he towed me back to the pits so we could fix the bike."
Back in the pits Baron's heart sank as he saw that he was soon to be lapped, but the team worked feverishly and were able to get him back on the track. Baron was down a lap and made an incredible charge back to eleventh place.
"Beau needed to be in eleventh to take the championship, but we wanted to make sure that he was secure in his position so we pulled Josh Row off in the last lap in order to put Beau in tenth and give a little extra security," stated Cafro.
Despite the setbacks the team faced, Baron would end up finishing in tenth place and taking his and the teams, first Pro ATV WORCS Championship. "I'm really proud of the team and I am very proud of Beau. He did a great job out there and really gave it his all to make it happen," said Cafro.
"After everything that happened out there, it was just a really incredible feeling to win the championship. I have to thank Mike and the whole team because they really came through for me and I couldn't have done it without them," stated Baron.

The MTA World Vet Championship is in its 25th year of competition. It has been won by some of the greatest names in motocross history (J.N. Robert, Gary Jones, Thorlief Hassen, Rex Staten, Eyvind Boyesen, Jeff Ward, Andy Jefferson, Warren Reid, Kent Howerton, Erik Kehoe, Ron Turner and Rich Thorwaldsen), but one name stands out from all others - Doug Dubach. Dubach has won 11 Over-30 World Vet Championships and six Over-40 titles.
Dubach won the Over-40 Pro race on Saturday and the Over-30 Pro race on Sunday. He pocketed several thousand dollars, but most of all-he took the coveted double Pro class win (and capped his record at 17 titles).

The final race of the WORCS series was held this last weekend in Mesquite, NV, and it turned out to be an eventful one indeed. The track was super sandy and with no rain it was quite dry too. The WORCS crew did a great job of watering as much as they could but a good start would still be critical with portions of the track being really dusty.
I really wanted to do well at this race because it was the last one of the season and I really felt like I could do well at this track. Once the gate dropped on Sunday afternoon I was ready to show everyone what I could do. I was second in the holeshot just behind Chris Johnson and was right on him going into the off-road. Not too far into the off-road Chris made a mistake and fell over I was able to get by him and he got back up behind me. From there I set a fast pace that I could hold for two hours.
When I came back onto the moto track I had a five second lead and I gradually stretched it out over the course of the race. I led every lap of the race and finished with a 55 second lead over Bobby Garrison in second. This was my first win in the Pro class and when I crossed that finish line I was ecstatic!
Overall I am very pleased with my first year as a Pro. I got three podiums and I ended up 4th in the series, which is the number I will run next year. I plan to carry this momentum into the first round at Speedworld in January.
I would like to thank all of my sponsors for helping me out, and I would like to give a big shout out to Bob Bell who created and managed the Northland Motorsports and Precision Concepts team all year.
See you at the races,
Taylor Robert

My name is Keith Padgett and I am 31 years old. I ride in the Vet +25 and +30 Junior classes. 2009 started out rough for me as I broke my hand, practicing at Zaca Station, about two weeks before the Loretta Lynn area qualifier. I immediately had surgery and began the rehabilitation process on my right hand. With the possibility of LL's this year out of the question, I set my focus on attending the 2009 Ford Mammoth Motocross. After a lot of work to get my throttle hand functioning, I did make it to Mammoth. I made my way up to 4th place after a crash in Saturday's main event, and I walked away from Sundays main event with a win and a 1st place bear! With 2nd overall on the weekend, I was extremely happy considering a couple months before I was in surgery. Washougal, WA was the next stop for the amateur day following the 8th round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. This event was well worth the 14 hour drive (one way). The track was amazing, and it was especially exciting to compete on the same track we watched the pros ride a day prior.
I walked away with 3rd in the 25+ class and 2nd in the 30+ class. Next on the calendar is the 25th Annual MTA MX Championship Oct. 29 - Nov 1, 2009 at Glen Helen.
My goals for next year are to move up to the Vet B class and qualify for Loretta Lynn's. I plan on competing at Mammoth in addition to the amateur days at Glenn Helen, Hangtown, Colorado, and Washougal. I would like to thank everyone that helps makes this possible: Oneal, Von Zipper, Zaca Station MX Park, MB1 Suspension, Works Connection, San Luis Motorsports, ETF, and my family Joey and Payton.
